Elecomp Co. Ltd announced small and smart controller unit for LED lamps managing and metering

This device collects and sends information to a home router or through a main controller unit (when plugged in to any power home socket). The main controller unit holds the information about the time spent as switched on and switched off, real power consumption, alarm lighting, smart light switch-off if nobody is at home etc. “Zero  power consumption and small dimensions based on COB technology of chipset.

If you are a consumer, the main question for you would be this: how I can trust different manufacturers of LED lamps if they announce same characteristics of their product as power consumption, brightness in lumen, lifetime and switch cycles but offer variable prices, some being twice as more expensive.  Moreover, it is only possible to accurately measure those parameters in specially equipped labs.
 
In fact, when you change cheaper old high-power consumption vacuum bulbs to LED ones while  energy companies, such as British Gas or E-ON, change their tariffs each year (LED lifetime is 10 years), you cannot calculate your advantage or justify the need to change all of the cheap old style bulbs for expensive LED ones. It is important to consider a variety of elements, including but not limited to, how long LED lamps be used for in reality and how much money can be saved until the next replacement is required.

Global M2M market to grow to 27 billion devices

Machina Research, the world’s leading provider of strategic market intelligence on M2M and the Internet of Things published its annual guidance on the size of the M2M market opportunity

The key findings are as follows:

> The total number of M2M connections will grow from 5 billion in 2014 to 27 billion in 2024, a CAGR of 18%.

> Today 72% of all M2M connections are connected using a short range technology (e.g. WiFi, Zigbee, or in-building PLC), by 2024 that will have declined to 69%. The big short-range applications, which cause it to be the dominant technology category, are Consumer Electronics, Building Security and Building Automation.

> Cellular connections will grow from 256 million at the end of 2014 to 2.2 billion by 2024, of which the majority will be LTE. Just over 50% of those cellular connections will be in the ‘Connected Car’ sector, including both factory-fit embedded connections and aftermarket devices.

Murata launches 4:1 input 3 watt isolated DC-DC converter

Murata has announced the NCS3 series of isolated 3 watt DC-DC converters manufactured by Murata Power Solutions. These through-hole mounting converters are packaged in an industry standard, pin compatible, SIP format, making them ideal as a replacement part when updating older product designs.

Accommodating a wide 4:1 input voltage range around either a 12 VDC or 48 VDC nominal, the NCS3 series comprises eight single-output regulated models providing a choice of 3.3, 5, 12, or 15 VDC output. The wide input voltage suits applications where the nominal input voltage might be different, or where wide voltage deviations are anticipated. Output regulation is quoted as better than 1% of stated output, meaning that no additional voltage regulation components are required, saving both cost and valuable board space. Input / output isolation of 1,500 VDC is standard across the range.
